Leiden in the top 10 most charming cities of Europe
According to Earth Travelling in February 2014, Leiden has been called the most beautiful city in the Netherlands and one of the 10 most charming cities in Europe. That is not too surprising, considering how much of the rich city history is still visible everywhere in the charming city centre. Plus, when you add the large number of museums, the many monuments and the thriving cultural climate you will certainly agree that the city is well-deserving of this reputation.
Leiden and its surrounding area has much to offer. Attractions, museums, entertainment and beautiful recreation areas in a varied landscape. Katwijk and Noordwijk offers a 17.5 kilometer long beach, where everyone can find a spot to relax.
World cities Amsterdam and the Hague are within easy reach. By car you are within one minute on highway A44. Even with public transport both cities are easily accessible.
In the spring you can enjoy the blooming tulip fields near Lisse. In the summer a beach visit is a very good idea. Additionally, you can enjoy shopping in Leiden throughout the year. Moreover the last Sunday of the month almost all shops in Leiden are opened. In Noordwijk, The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam shopping is possible every Sunday.
And what do you thnk of a walk through the center of Leiden or a wonderful cruise on the Kagerplassen at Warmond? In the autumn and winter you can visit the museums in Leiden and then hang out on the beach. After a long day a delicious mug of hot chocolate is always a good idea.
